GREENSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 23)- The Saint Vincent men's tennis team fell by a score of 5-2 to Penn State-Altoona on Sunday afternoon at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
The Bearcats (7-1) won two of the three doubles matches to win the doubles point, before the Lions (4-1, 1-0 AMCC) won five of the six singles matches, three of which that went into tiebreaker points.
In the top doubles spot,
Matthew Sadusky and
Braden Yokopenic earned a 6-4 win for the Bearcats to open the afternoon. After a loss in second doubles,
Brian Lee and
J.T. Gockel clinched the doubles point for the Bearcats with a 7-5 victory in the third doubles spot to put Saint Vincent up 1-0 in the match.
Singles play started off strong for the Bearcats as Yokopenic picked up his second win of the afternoon, earning a 6-1, 6-4 win in the third singles spot. With Saint Vincent up 2-0 in the match, the Lions won the final five singles matches to clinch the win. Four, five, and six singles all went to the third set tiebreaker as Altoona won all three of the matches to clinch the 5-2 victory.
The Bearcats will now head down south to Hilton Head Island, S.C. to play in three matches. Their first of three matches will take place Sunday, March 2 against Johnson & Wales University with a 3 p.m. scheduled start.
