Men's tennis wins opener in Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Mar. 3) - The Saint Vincent men's tennis team opened up its Spring Break trip with a 5-2 win over Johnson & Wales. 

The Bearcats opened doubles play with a 6-4 win at the top spot by Braden Yokopenic and Matthew Sadusky, but ultimately dropped second and third doubles to lose the doubles point and go down 0-1.

Jack Citrone turned the tides for SVC with a convincing 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth singles to knot things up, 1-1. Shortly thereafter Sadusky claimed his second win of the day, a 6-2, 6-1 rout at second singles to give the Green and Gold their first lead of the day.

Brian Lee extended the lead for the Bearcat netters with his 6-2, 6-3 win in the three hole before Brady Johnson secured the team win with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 at fourth singles. The match was Johnson's third straight three set match. The final blow was struck by Yokopenic, as he secured a 6-2, 0-6, 10-4 victory at first singles.

With the win SVC improves to 8-1 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday, March 4 when they take on Bridgewater College at the Van der Meer Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
