Men's tennis downs Bridgewater in Hilton Head to move to 9-1

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Mar. 4) - The Saint Vincent men's tennis team capped off their Spring Break trip with a thrilling come from behind win over Bridgewater College, 4-3, at the Van der Meer Tennis Center.

The Bearcats started out hot in doubles, as Jack Citrone and Brady Johnson won third doubles by a score of 6-3, but were unable to secure the loan doubles point, dropping the top two pairings by matching 4-6 scores.

The Green and Gold were dealt another blow to open singles play when newly minted PAC Player of the Week, Braden Yokopenic, was forced to retire early in his match due to injury, putting SVC down 0-2 overall. Things continued to pile up against SVC, as Bridgewater claimed third singles in straight sets to put the match score at 0-3.

Needing all the remaining points to take the team win SVC started to claw back when Matthew Sadusky battled his way to a 6-2, 2-6, 10-6 win at second singles to get the Bearcats on the board. Next off was Citrone, the winner of a dominant effort at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-2. The match was knotted up at 3-3 after Johnson secured his second win of the day, 1-6, 7-6(2), 10-4, at fourth singles. With the match on the line it was Kyle Murray who came through for the Green and Gold with a 6-0, 6-4 win at sixth singles to finish off the Eagles.

The win pushes the Bearcat record to 9-1 on the season and marks an end to the non-conference slate as the team will begin PAC play on Saturday, March 15 when they host Waynesburg on the SVC courts.
