BRIDGEWATER, Va. (March 1)- The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team secured their first victory of the 2025 campaign in an 11-8 win on the road at Bridgewater.
Saint Vincent (1-2) held a slight 5-4 lead at the half, before going on to outscore Bridgewater (1-3) 6-4 in the second half to secure the victory on the road.
In his first game of the season,
Jonathan Nagy was strong for the Bearcats, recording sevent points. Nagy scored four goals, while dishing out three assists, and picking up a ground ball for Saint Vincent.
Liam McCall added five points, scoring three goals, while dishing out two assists as well.
Seven different Saint Vincent players totaled one point for the Bearcats in the win.
Brady Beard,
Carter Haid, and
Isaiah Francis all picked up an assist, while
Neal Ritchie,
Jacob Crumling, and
Justin Wodarek all scored goals for SVC.
Mason Krabbe scooped up an impressive seven ground balls in the win. Beard,
Tyler Harpst,
Cam Herring, and
Colton Baker all recorded four ground balls as well for Saint Vincent. Herring also led the team with three caused turnovers, while
Colin Cooper and
Sean Fehrenbach both caused two turnovers of their own.
Garrett Ritts picked up the win in net for Saint Vincent, making 11 saves.
Less than two minutes into the game, Crumling got the Bearcats on the board with his lone goal of the game. Crumling's goal came on an assist from Beard to put SVC up 1-0. After a Bridgewater goal tied the game, Saint Vincent scored the next four goals.Â
McCall scored back-to-back goals and Nagy followed with back-to-back goals of his own to put Saint Vincent up 5-1. Bridgewater answered with three consecutive goals of their own before the half, but Saint Vincent still held a slight 5-4 advantage at the half.
Coming out of the half, Saint Vincent scored the first two goals. First, Wodarek scored on an assist from Nagy with a man-up and then Nagy followed with a goal on an assist from Francis as the Bearcats lead was 7-4.Â
Once again, Bridgewater answered with back-to-back goals, cutting the lead to 7-6 with four minutes to play in the third quarter. The Bearcats closed the game out scoring three of the next four goals and four of the next to hang on for their first win of the season. Saint Vincent's final four goals came from Ritchie, Nagy, Harpst, and McCall.
In the win, Bridgewater out shot Saint Vincent by a 41-30 margin. The Bearcats were 20-25 in clears and scooped up 38 ground balls as well. Faceoffs were 11-11 in the game.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, March 8 with a home matchup against Neumann. Opening face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at UPMC Field.
