LATROBE, Pa. (March 12)- The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team fell at home to Davis and Elkins under the lights at UPMC Field on Wednesday night by a score of 19-3.
The Bearcats (2-3) trailed 7-1 at the half, before the Senators (1-5) went on to outscore Saint Vincent 12-2 in the second half to hand SVC the non-conference defeat.
Cara Dupilka,
Louisa Zamborsky, and
Carolina Walters were the lone goal scorers for the Bearcats.
Katie Smith also added an assist for SVC.
Alexandria Votovich scooped up seven ground balls and caused four turnovers for the Bearcats, while
Kloe Templeton added two ground balls and Smith picked up five.
Cassidy Rega took the loss in net, making eight saves, while also scooping up five ground balls.
Davis and Elkins shut out the Bearcats 5-0 in the opening quarter. It was much closer in the second quarter, but the Senators still outscored SVC 2-1 to go into the half up 7-1. Walters scored the Bearcats lone goal of the half on an assist from Smith.
Dupilka scored the first goal of the second half and Zamborsky added one a couple minutes later as Saint Vincent had cut the lead to 8-3. From that point on, it was all Senators. Davis and Elkins went on to outscore SVC 11-0 the rest of the way to hand the Bearcats the non-conference defeat.
D&E outshot the Bearcats 34-22 in the game. Saint Vincent also trailed in draw controls by a 16-10 margin.
Saint Vincent will look to get back on track when they travel to La Roche on Saturday, March 15 for another non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at La Roche on Saturday.
