LATROBE, Pa. (March 15)- The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team fell to Susquehanna University by a score of 13-9 on Saturday afternoon at UPMC Field.
Saint Vincent (2-4) trailed by just two, 7-5, at the half, before the River Hawks (7-1) went on to outscore the Bearcats 6-4 in the second half to hand the Bearcats the non-conference defeat.
Jonathan Nagy led Saint Vincent with five total points, scoring three goals, while dishing out two assists as well.
Liam McCall added four points (three goals, one assist), while
Owen Rogers,
Carter Haid, and
Justin Wodarek all totaled two points each. Rogers and Wodarek both assisted on two goals, while Haid scored twice.
Reed Hunt added a goal and
Cam Herring assisted on one.Â
Isaiah Francis led Saint Vincent with five ground balls, while also causing one turnover.
Brady Beard scooped up four ground balls and caused one turnover as well.
Garrett Ritts took the loss in net, making 17 saves for Saint Vincent.
Susquehanna jumped out to a 2-0 lead about 11 minutes through the opening quarter. Saint Vincent answered with the next three goals to jump in front of the River Hawks, with all three goals coming on the man-up. McCall scored twice and Haid scored once to put the Bearcats up 3-2 early in the second quarter.
The River Hawks scored the next five goals as SVC found themselves trailing 7-3. Saint Vincent answered before the half as Nagy scored twice, once on an assist from McCall and the other coming from Wodarek to cut the lead to 7-5 at the half.
Saint Vincent won the third quarter by a 3-2 margin to cut the lead to just one (9-8) heading into the final quarter. First, Haid scored on an assist from Rogers, followed by goals from McCall and Nagy as the game headed to the final quarter of play.
Susquehanna outscored SVC 4-1 in the final quarter to hand the Bearcats the 13-9 non-conference loss at home. Hunt scored the lone Saint Vincent goal in the quarter on an assist from Rogers.
SVC was outshot by Susquehanna by a 59-31 margin in the game. Faceoffs were 18-8 in favor of the River Hawks as well.
The Bearcats return to action on Tuesday, March 18 with a trip to Muskingum to take on the Muskies. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in New Concord, Ohio.
