Men's lacrosse wins big on the road at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio (March 18)- The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team earned a 12-4 win on the road at Muskingum on Tuesday night. 

The Bearcats (3-4) held a commanding 6-2 lead at the half, before their strong defensive play allowed just two Muskingum (3-5) goals in the entirety of the second half, while Saint Vincent scored six more to earn the road victory.

Jonathan Nagy once again led the way for Saint Vincent, recording seven points in the win. Nagy scored three goals, while dishing out four assists, and picking up two ground balls. Liam McCall added three points on three goals for Saint Vincent in the win.

Jacob Crumling scored two goals, while Reed Hunt, Cam Herring, Calvin Rose, and Mason Krabbe all scored one goal each as well. Owen Rogers and Carter Haid both added one assist each. Isaiah Francis led the Bearcats with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. Tyler Harpst added four ground balls for SVC, while Shawn Ryan and Sean Fehrenbach both recorded a caused turnover. 

Brady Beard was 8-16 in faceoffs, scooping up two ground balls as well. Garrett Ritts allowed just four Muskie goals, while recording an impressive 14 saves.

It was a quick start for Saint Vincent in the first quarter, as the Bearcats scored the first three goals of the game. Hunt and Herring both scored on assists from Nagy to put SVC up 2-0, before McCall scored on an assist from Haid to increase the lead to 3-0. Muskingum added a goal before the quarters end, cutting the lead to 3-1.

In the second quarter, it was much of the same story. The Bearcats scored the first two goals of the quarter, both of which came from Nagy to put SVC up 5-1. His first of the two goals was assisted by Rogers. After a Muskingum goal cut the lead to 5-2, McCall added another Saint Vincent goal on an assist from Nagy to put the Bearcats up 6-2 at the half.

Saint Vincent controlled the entirety of the second half, both offensively and defensively. To open up the half, Crumling scored to put the Bearcats up 7-2. The rest of the quarter was 2-2. Nagy scored with a man-up, while Krabbe added a goal to as the Bearcats led 9-4 going into the fourth quarter.

The Bearcats scored all three goals in the fourth quarter. Cumling, McCall, and Rose all scored for the Bearcats to seal the win. McCall's goal came on Nagy's fourth assist of the game.

Muskingum outshot the Bearcats 41-37. The Bearcats were an impressive 23-25 on clears, while limiting the Muskies to 17-21 on clears. Ground balls were 37-31 in favor of the Bearcats, while faceoffs were 11-9 in favor of Muskingum.

SVC will return to action on Saturday, March 22 as they play host to Lebanon Valley. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at UPMC Field.
