BEAVER, Pa. (March 19)- The Saint Vincent softball team earned a doubleheader sweep at Penn State-Beaver on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bearcats (9-5) won the opening game of the doubleheader 7-0, before earning a 10-8 win in game two to complete the sweep.

Game 1- Saint Vincent 7, Penn State-Beaver 0
Â
Olivia Bushore dominated the game in the circle for the Bearcats.
Â
She led the Bearcats pitching a complete game shutout. Bushore carried a no-hitter through 6.2 innings, before allowing her first and only hit of the game with two outs in the seventh. She also recorded seven strikeouts, while walking three batters.

Offensively,
Alyssa Henderson went 2-3 with two runs scored.
Dakota Hershberger added two hits in her three at bats, scoring one run as well.
Josey Michalski went 1-4 with a solo homerun and two RBI's.
Â
Eva Farone went 1-4 with one run scored and one RBI as well.
Shayna Perigo and
Mackenzie Favero both added one hit each for Saint Vincent.

After a scoreless first inning, the Bearcats struck first in the second inning. Henderson doubled and later came around to score on an error to put SVC up 1-0.

The low scoring game continued into the fourth as the score was still 1-0. However, in the fourth inning Saint Vincent broke the game open with three runs. First, Michalski ripped a solo homerun to deep left field to increase the lead to 2-0.

Henderson then came around to score on a wild pitch and Williams scored on the same play after an errant throw from the catcher as SVC's lead was now 4-0.

The Bearcats added three insurance runs in the seventh. Faron hit an RBI-single that scored Hershberger. Michalski recorded an RBI-groundout, scoring Farone and Farone came around later in the inning to score on a wild pitch as the score was 7-0 Saint Vincent.

The pitching took over the rest of the way as Bushore continued her dominant performance in the circle, shutting out the Lions the rest of the way to earn Saint Vincent the win in the opening game of the doubleheader.

Saint Vincent scored their seven runs on nine hits, while Beaver was shutout on just one hit, committing four errors as well.

Game 2- Saint Vincent 10, Penn State-Beaver 8

Saint Vincent trailed 1-0 after three innings, before scoring two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, four in the sixth, and three in the seventh to earn the road victory.
Â
Eva Farone led Saint Vincent with three hits, while scoring two runs in the win.
Lily Koller also totaled three hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs for Saint Vincent.
Shayna Perigo went 2-4 with a run scored as well.

Haley Hamilton,
Alyssa Henderson,
Taylor Williams, and
Dakota Hershberger all tallied one hit each for SVC. Williams, Hersherger, and Koller all hit homers for Saint Vincent in the win.

Megahan Braun took the no-decision in the circle, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits, while striking out four and walking two.

A.J. Arnal picked up the win in relief, pitching 2.2 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits, while walking one batter as well.
Madi Zigarovich picked up the two out save, not allowing a baserunner.

It was a slow start to the game offensively for both teams. The Lions scored in the first inning but that was the only run scored through the first three innings as the Bearcats trailed 1-0

Saint Vincent stranded the bases loaded in the second inning. SVC gained their first lead of the game in the fourth as Hershberger ripped a two-run homer scoring Perigo to put the Bearcats up 2-1.

Beaver tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot as the game was 2-2 heading into the fifth. The back-and-forth game continued in the fifth as Henderson ripped an RBI-double to left field, scoring Farone, but Beaver answered in the bottom of the inning to once again tie the game, this time at 3-3.

The Bearcats broke the game open in the sixth as they continued to use the long ball to their advantage. Koller hit a two-run homer, scoring Hershberger to put SVC up 5-3, Michalski followed with an RBI-sac fly scoring Favero and Farone scored on a wild pitch as the Saint Vincent lead was 7-3.

After a run from the Lions in the bottom of the inning, Saint Vincent scored three more runs in the top of the seventh. Williams hit a solo homerun, McHugh then reached on error, allowing Hershberger to score, and Koller later came around to score on a wild pitch to increase the SVC lead to 10-4.

Penn State-Beaver attempted one last comeback, hitting a grand slam in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 10-8, but Zigarovich picked up the two-out save to secure the win for Saint Vincent.

Saint Vincent scored their ten runs on 13 hits, committing two errors, while Penn State-Beaver scored their eight runs on seven hits, committing one error.

The Bearcats return to action on Friday, March 21 with a non-conference doubleheader at Pitt-Greensburg. First pitch for game one is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
