Women's lacrosse falls at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (March 26)- The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team fell in a Presidents Athletic Conference matchup at Westminster by a final score of 20-4 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bearcats (2-6, 0-2 PAC) were outscored by the Titans (7-1, 2-0 PAC) 13-1 in the first half, before Westminster went on to outscore Saint Vincent by a 7-3 margin in the second half.

Katie Smith led Saint Vincent, scoring two of their four goals, while she also scooped up three ground balls and recorded one draw control as well. Gabby Salandro scored one goal as well, which was the 50th point in her Saint Vincent career, while also recording two draw controls. Carolina Walters scored one goal, recorded one caused turnover, and picked up three draw controls for SVC.

Cassidy Rega took the loss in net for Saint Vincent, making eight saves.

Westminster outshot the Bearcats by a 38-9 margin over the course of the game. SVC turned it over 21 times, compared to 11 by the Titans. The Bearcats were 11-17 on clears, while Westminster as 17-18 on their end. Ground balls (30-14) and draw controls (15-10) were both in favor of the Titans as well. Saint Vincent went 2-3 on free position attempts in the loss.

Westminster quickly led 12-0 through a quarter and a half, before a goal from Walters got the Bearcats on the board in the second quarter. However, the Titans outscored SVC 8-3 the rest of the game. Salandro recorded her 50th career point on her goal with 2:54 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, March 29 as they host Geneva on senior day. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 noon with senior day festivities taking place prior to the game.
