LATROBE, Pa. (March 27)- The Saint Vincent softball team was swept by Geneva in their Presidents Athletic Conference home opening doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.
Saint Vincent (12-8, 0-2 PAC) fell to the Golden Tornadoes (13-3, 2-2 PAC) by a score of 8-5 in the opener, before falling in the second game of the doubleheader, 8-1.
Game 1- Geneva 8, Saint Vincent 5
Saint Vincent held a 4-2 lead after three innings of play in the opener, but Geneva went on to outscore SVC 6-1 over the final four innings to hand the Bearcats the loss in their 2025 PAC opener.
Alyssa Henderson led Saint Vincent with two hits in her three at bats in the opener of the doubleheader.
Lily Koller added a hit and two RBI's, while
Macie McHugh recorded a pinch hit and RBI as well.
Dakota Hershberger,
Taylor Williams, and
Shayna Perigo all added one hit each for Saint Vincent in the loss.
A.J. Arnal took the loss in the circle for SVC, pitching four innings, allowing five earned runs on nine hits.
Madi Zigarovich pitched a scoreless inning in relief for the Bearcats.
Geneva scored right off the bat in the top of the first to take a 1-0, but Saint Vincent quickly answered. In the bottom of the first,
Josey Michalski hit and RBI-sac fly that scored
Mackenzie Favero to tie the game at 1-1.
After a scoreless second inning, Geneva regained the lead with a solo homer in the third inning as the Bearcats trailed 2-1. SVC answered once again with a big bottom of the third. First,
Eva Farone reached on error, scoring Perigo to tie the game at 2-2. Koller followed with a two-out two-RBI triple, scoring Michalski and Farone to put Saint Vincent in the lead at 4-2.
Geneva once again regained the lead scoring two runs in each of the next two innings as the Bearcats found themselves trailing once again 6-4. McHugh added an RBI-double that scored Hershberger in the sixth, but a double play with the bases loaded ended any more of a threat for SVC in the inning. Geneva added two insurance runs in the seventh and the Bearcats went down in order in the bottom of the inning as SVC fell in the opener.
Saint Vincent's final line score was five runs on seven hits, committing three errors, while Geneva scored their eight runs on 13 hits, committing one error of their own.
Game 2- Geneva 8, Saint Vincent 1
Saint Vincent trailed just 2-1 after five innings, but Geneva scored two runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to down the Bearcats in the second game of the doubleheader.
The Bearcats were limited to just five hits in the loss.

Abby Bauer all recorded one hit each for SVC.
Meghan Braun pitched took the loss in the circle for Saint Vincent, pitching five innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits, while also picking up three strikeouts.
After a scoreless first three innings, Geneva scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead. Saint Vincent answered in the bottom of the inning as Henderson hit and RBI-single through the left side, scoring Hershberger to tie the game at 1-1.
It was all Golden Tornadoes from that point on. Geneva added one in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead, two in the sixth, and four more in the seventh as SVC fell in the doubleheader finale.
Saint Vincent's final line score was one run on five hits, committing three errors, while Geneva scored their eight runs on 12 hits, committing one error.
SVC will return to action on Saturday, March 29 with a road PAC doubleheader at Westminster. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. with game two to follow after in New Wilmington, Pa.
