MEADVILLE, Pa. (March 29)- The Saint Vincent softball team split a Presidents Athletic Conference doubleheader at Allegheny on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Meadville.
In game one after a rain delay, the Bearcats (13-9, 1-3 PAC) came from behind to defeat Allegheny 2-1 after two sixth inning runs. Saint Vincent followed that up with a 6-3 loss to the Gators (10-10, 3-3 PAC) in the finale of the doubleheader.
Game 1- Saint Vincent 2, Allegheny 1
The Bearcats trailed 1-0 through five innings, but two runs in the sixth inning lifted them to the victory in the pitchers duel in the opener of the doubleheader.
Saint Vincent totaled just four hits in the win, but a
Dakota Hershberger two-run homerun in the sixth inning was the difference maker for the Bearcats. Along with Hershberger's homerun,
Josey Michalski added two hits, while
Anita Szymoniak recorded one hit in the win for Saint Vincent as well.
Meghan Braun picked up the complete game win for the Bearcats in the circle, her seventh win of the season. Braun allowed just the one earned run on eight hits, while striking out two in route to her complete game.Â
The scoring was minimal, but Allegheny quickly got out of the gates with a solo homerun in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. That 1-0 lead would hold over the next four innings. That's until Hershberger's two run homer that scored Michalski to give Saint Vincent a 2-1 lead going into the seventh inning.
Braun set the Gators down in order in the seventh to secure the win for Saint Vincent.
SVC's final line score was two runs on four hits, committing one error, while Allegheny scored their one run on eight hits, committing one error as well.Â
Game 2- Allegheny 6, Saint Vincent 3
Saint Vincent fell to Allegheny in the second game of the doubleheader as the Gators used a five run second inning to hand the Bearcats the loss in game two.
Eva Farone led SVC with two hits in the second game.
Mackenzie Favero,
Dakota Hershberger,
Alyssa Henderson, and
Haley Hamilton all recorded one hit each for Saint Vincent in the loss.
Farone took the loss in the circle, pitching two innings allowing five earned runs on four hits, while striking out one and walking two.

After a scoreless first inning, the Gators scored five runs on four hits in the second inning as Saint Vincent found themselves trailing 5-0. SVC answered with two runs in the third on an RBI-groundout from
Lily Koller and RBI-single from Hershberger to cut the Allegheny lead to 5-2.
Saint Vincent added another run in the fifth as Favero came around to score on a throwing error to cut the lead to 5-3. However, the Gators added an insurance run on a solo homer in the fifth and shut SVC down in the sixth and seventh to hand the Bearcats the PAC loss.
The Bearcats final line score was three runs on six hits, while Allegheny scored six runs on eight hits, committing two errors.
SVC returns to action on Tuesday, April 1 with another road PAC matchup at Westminster. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in New Wilmington, Pa.
