LATROBE, Pa. (March 30)- The Saint Vincent men's tennis team breezed past Pitt-Greensburg with a 6-1 win on Sunday morning at the SVC Courts.
Saint Vincent (11-2, 1-1 PAC) won all three doubles matches to win the doubles point over the Bobcats (1-6, 0-1 AMCC), before winning five of the six singles matches to pick up the non-conference home victory.
In doubles play,
Jack Citrone and
Anthony Sparta opened up with a 6-1 victory in the number two doubles spot for the Bearcats.
Julien Vonovier and
Brian Lee followed with a 6-2 victory in third doubles to clinch the doubles point for SVC and give Vonovier his first career doubles win to put the Bearcats up 1-0 in the match.
Braden Yokopenic and
Deven Summers added a 6-3 win in the top doubles spot for Saint Vincent.
Matthew Sadusky opened up singles play with a 6-1, 1-0 victory in number two singles before a retirement from Pitt-Greensburg to put the Bearcats up 2-0 in the match. Citrone followed with his second victory of the day, this one coming in third singles, earning a 6-0, 6-0 win for the Bearcats to take a 3-0 lead in the match.
Vonovier followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the number six singles spot in his first career collegiate singles match to clinch the match point for SVC, putting them up 4-0 in the match.
William Hinkson added a 6-4, 6-2 win in five singles and Sparta picked up his second win of the day with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at number four singles. SVC fell in the top singles spot but still won the match handedly.
Saint Vincent will now return back to Presidents Athletic Conference play with an important matchup at Geneva on Monday, March 31. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in Beaver Falls, Pa.
