AUBURNDALE, Fla. (March 4)- The Saint Vincent baseball team earned a 7-3 victory against Albion on Tuesday afternoon to give Saint Vincent Vincent their second consecutive victory.
The game was tied 2-2 through five innings of play, before Saint Vincent (2-1) went on to outscore Albion 5-1 over the final four innings to earn the 7-3 victory in Florida.
For the second straight day, the Bearcats got another strong pitching performance.
Jeremy Kreuzwieser picked up the win on the mound for SVC, pitching five innings, giving up four runs (two earned), while striking out six and walking four batters.
Andrew Root picked up the win on the mound for the Bearcats, pitching four strong innings in relief. The graduate pitcher allowed just one run on eight hits over those four innings, recording eight strikeouts.
Mario Disso led the Bearcats at the plate, going 3-4 with one RBI.
Derek Hald and
L.J. Evans both added two hits each, while
Kyle Belmont,
Ben Hudson,
Dalton Nicklow, and
Dylan Schmude all recorded one hit each as well. Hudson also scored three runs, while Belmont crossed the plate twice.
After going scoreless in the opening two innings, the Bearcats got on the board first in the third inning. Hald reached first base on a throwing error, scoring both Hudson and Belmont to extend the inning and give Saint Vincent a 2-0 lead.
Albion got those two runs back right away in the bottom of the third to tie the game up at 2-2.
Once again, both teams went scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings as the game headed to the sixth still tied at 2-2. In the sixth, the Bearcats struck for two more runs. Hudson reached on a fielder's choice scoring Belmont once again to give SVC a 3-2 lead.
Disso followed with a single to right center, scoring Hudson to increase the Saint Vincent lead to 4-2. Root held Albion scoreless in the bottom of the inning, before Saint Vincent added two more runs in the seventh.
Schmude knocked in
Nolan Hurd with an RBI-single and eventually scored on a passed ball to put the Bearcats in command with a 6-2 advantage.
Both teams added another run as Albion scored in the bottom of the seventh and the Bearcats in the eighth on an RBI-double from Hald as the Bearcats earned the 7-3 win.
Saint Vincent scored their seven runs on 11 hits, committing one error, while Albion scored three runs on 12 hits, committing five errors.
The Bearcats return to action tomorrow, Wednesday, March 5 with a matchup against North Central (MN). First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla.
