WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (March 4)- The Saint Vincent softball team completed a doubleheader sweep, defeating Marian and Clark, completing the sweep with a walk-off win.
In the Bearcats first win of the day, they avenged a loss to Marian yesterday with a 5-3 win. They followed that up with a 5-4 extra inning walk-off win in game two against Clark.
Abby Bauer hit a walk off two-RBI double for the Bearcats in the win.
Game 1- Saint Vincent 5, Marian 3
Saint Vincent used a four-run second inning to propel them to the victory in the opening game of the day. Marian outscored the Bearcats 3-1 over the remainder of the game, but SVC still held on for their first win of the 2025 campaign.
Eva Farone led Saint Vincent going 2-4 with three RBI's in the win.
Alyssa Henderson added three hits, going 3-4 with one scored.
Taylor Williams went 2-4 as well with two RBI's and two runs scored.
Dakota Hershberger and
Lily Koller both tallied hits for Saint Vincent in the win as well.
Meghan Braun picked up the win in the circle for Saint Vincent. Braun pitched four innings, giving up two runs on four hits, while striking out three and walking one.
Olivia Bushore picked up the save, pitching three innings, allowing just one run on two hits, while striking out two and walking two as well.
After a scoreless first inning, Saint Vincent struck for four runs in the second inning. Williams started it off with a two-RBI single to left center, scoring Henderson and Koller to put SVC up 2-0. Farone followed with a two-RBI triple to right field, scoring Favero and Williams as the Bearcats lead grew to 4-0.
Both teams went scoreless in the third, before Saint Vincent increased their lead in the fourth. Farone recorded an RBI-groundout to the pitcher, allowing Williams to come across to score to give SVC a 5-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the fourth.Â
From that point on, Marian outscored SVC 3-0, but it wasn't enough as Bushore shut the door to secure the win.
Saint Vincent scored their five runs on nine hits, committing two errors, while Marian scored their three runs on six hits, committing one error.
Game 2- Saint Vincent 5, Clark 4 (9 Innings)
Saint Vincent trailed 2-0 after four and half innings in the second game of the day, before a three-run bottom of the fifth put SVC ahead. Clark went on to tie the game and send it to extra innings, before a walk-off two RBI double from
Abby Bauer won it for Saint Vincent.
SVC was led by sophomore
A.J. Arnal who tossed a gem in the circle. The sophomore pitched a complete-game, allowing just four runs on four hits, while striking out one and walking eight.
The Bearcats top three hitters in the order all recorded two hits each.
Macie McHugh went 2-5 with one run scored, Bauer went 2-3 with one run scored and two RBI's, including the game-winning RBI, and
Josey Michalski went 2-4 with one RBI as well. Henderson and
Haley Hamilton added a hit and RBI, while
Mackenzie Favero recorded a hit and run scored.
With Clark leading 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth, the Bearcat bats came alive. First, Michalski singled, scoring McHugh to cut the lead to 2-1. Henderson followed with an RBI-single, scoring Bauer to tie it at 2-2. Hamilton gave Saint Vincent the lead with an RBI-sac fly, scoring Williams as SVC lead 3-2.
That 3-2 lead held until the seventh inning, before Clark tied it and held Saint Vincent scoreless in the bottom of the inning to send it to extra innings. After a scoreless eighth inning, Clark scored a run in the top of the ninth to take a 4-3 lead.
With Saint Vincent down to their final out, that's when Bauer ripped her game-winning two-RBI double to center field, scoring Favero and Hershberger to win it for the Bearcats and take down previosuly undefeated Clark.

The Bearcats will conclude their Florida trip tomorrow, Wednesday, March 5 with a doubleheader against North Central (MN) and Wentworth Institute of Technology in Winter Haven. The North Central game will begin at 9 a.m. with the Wentworth game to follow after at 11:15 a.m.
