GREENVILLE, Pa. (March 7)- The Saint Vincent men's volleyball team fell to Thiel 3-1 in a Presidents Athletic Conference matchup on Friday night in Greenville.
The Bearcats (6-8, 1-4 PAC) fell in the opening set 25-18, before winning 25-23 in set two. Thiel (14-6, 7-0 PAC) went on to win the final two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-16.
Shawn McSwiggen led the way for the Bearcats with 21 kills in the match.
Zebadiah Wyant recorded a double-double for SVC with 14 kills and 12 digs.
Jackson Genicola recorded a double-double as well with 32 assists and 15 digs.
Tyler Nelson added eight kills and 11 digs for the Bearcats.
It was back-and-forth early on in the opening set as the score was tied 8-8. It was still a tight game in the later portions of the set, with the Bearcats trailing by two at 19-17. Thiel went on to score six of the final seven to win the opening set (25-18), as the Bearcats trailed 1-0 in the match.
Similar to the first set, it was back-and-forth for the majority of the second set. SVC held a slight 18-17 lead late in the set. After a kill from
Rocco Marino, the Bearcats took a 24-20 lead. Thiel scored the next three points before a kill from Nelson won the set (25-23), tying the match up at 1-1.
In the third set, it was back-and-forth as the set was tied 3-3 and then remained tied at 21-21. Thiel went on to score four of the final five points to win the set (25-22), as SVC was trailing 2-1 in the match.
The Tomcats controlled the entirety of the final set. Saint Vincent quickly found themselves trailing 8-3, before increasing that lead to six at 20-14. Thiel scored five of the final seven points to win the set (25-16) and the match 3-0.
Saint Vincent hit .149 in the match, while Thiel hit .299 as a team.
The Bearcats return to action on Wednesday, March 12 with another PAC matchup against Chatham on the road. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Pittsburgh.
