Men's lacrosse drops PAC matchup at Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Apr. 12)- The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team fell on the road at Chatham by a score of 12-6 on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats (7-6, 4-1 PAC) trailed by two (5-3) at the half, but the Cougars (9-5, 4-1 PAC) went on to outscore SVC 7-3 in the second half.

Liam McCall led Saint Vincent with three points in the loss, scoring one goal, while dishing out two assists. Carter Haid added two goals for the Bearcats, while Jonathan Nagy scored one goal and dished out one assist as well. Brady Beard and Layne Heininger both scored goals in the loss as well. Beard also went 13-22 in faceoffs.

Mason Krabbe led SVC with nine ground balls and two caused turnovers. Garrett Ritts took the loss in net, making an impressive 21 saves, while also picking up five ground balls for the Bearcats.

Saint Vincent scored two of the first three goals, coming from Henininger on an assist from Nagy, followed by a goal from Haid to put the Bearcats up 2-1. Chatham answered, scoring seven of the next eight goals to jump out to a five goal lead at 8-3 with 10:21 remaining in the third quarter.

The game never got closer as the Cougars pulled away in the fourth quarter to hand Saint Vincent the loss. 

SVC got outshot 49-25 over the course of the game. The Bearcats also turned it over 34 times, compared to 22 from the Cougars. Saint Vincent was just 19-31 on clears, while Chatham scooped up 44 ground balls in comparison to 32 from the Bearcats.

The Bearcats return to action on Wednesday, April 16 with a home matchup against Grove City. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. under the lights at UPMC Field.
