Women's lacrosse downed at home by Bethany

LATROBE, Pa. (Apr. 5)- The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team fell to Bethany by a score of 13-6 at home on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats (3-8, 1-4 PAC) held Bethany to just one first quarter, before the Bison (3-9, 2-2 PAC) outscored SVC 5-4 in the second quarter to hold a 6-4 halftime lead. Bethany went on to outscore Saint Vincent 7-2 to hand the Bearcats the home Presidents Athletic Conference defeat.

Cara Dupilka (two goals), Melanie Seefeldt (two goals), and Carolina Walters (two assists) all totaled two points in the loss for Saint Vincent. Walters recorded five draw controls for SVC. Valeria Hurtado and Katie Smith added one goal each for the Bearcats. Gabby Salandro led the Bearcats with five ground balls, while also causing three turnovers as well.

Cassidy Rega took the loss in net, making seven saves for Saint Vincent.

It was a low scoring opening quarter as the Bison scored the lone goal to hold a 1-0 advantage. Bethany went on to score the first four goals of the second quarter as well to increase their lead to 5-0. However, Saint Vincent crawled back into the game just before the half. Saint Vincent scored four consecutive goals, two coming from Seefeldt with one each coming from Smith and Dupilka to cut the lead to 5-4. 

Bethany added a late first half goal to take a 6-4 lead into the break.

It was all Bison in the second half. Bethany outscored Saint Vincent 7-2 in the half, including shutting them out in the third quarter. Hurtado and Dupilka scored the second half goals for the Bearcats.

The Bison out shot SVC by a slight 26-25 margin. SVC was 17-22 on clears, while Bethany was 20-31 on clears. Ground balls were 19-11 in favor of the Bearcats as well. Bethany was 3-7 on free position shots, while the Bearcats were 2-5 on their end.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Wednesday, April 9 with a trip to Grove City to take on the Wolverines in a PAC matchup. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
