LATROBE, Pa. (Aug. 29)- The Saint Vincent men's soccer team offense shined in a 7-0 season opening victory against Valley Forge under the lights at UPMC Field.
The win for the Bearcats is the first win in the head coaching career of
Tyler Gallagher, who was hired by Saint Vincent last spring.
Saint Vincent (1-0) dominated from start to finish, out-shooting Valley Forge by an impressive 30-1 margin.
Jack Billick and
Oziel Bonola-Soriano both led Saint Vincent with two goals each.
Daniel Maddock,
Javier Torres, and
Russell Minni all scored in the win for SVC as well. Maddock,
Bruno Hurtado, and
Noah Smith all recorded assists for SVC as well.
Grant Archuleta,
Kameron Rock, and
Chrystiaan Sexton all shared the night in goal for SVC, pitching the shutout. Rock made the lone save for SVC.
In the first ten minutes of the game, Billick netted two goals to quickly put the Bearcats up 2-0. They weren't done yet in the opening half as Bonola-Soriano and Maddock scored 15 minutes apart to double the SVC lead to 4-0.
The rout continued in the second half as Bonola-Soriano, Torres, and Minni all scored to solidify the victory for the Bearcats.
Over the course of the game, Saint Vincent totaled five corner kicks to just one from Valley Forge.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Sunday, August 31 with a home matchup against Pitt-Bradford. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at UPMC Field.
