Women's volleyball falls in five sets to Penn State Behrend

LATROBE, Pa. (Aug. 30)- The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team was downed in a tough five set match by Penn State-Behrend to conclude the Bearcat Women's Volleyball Challenge on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats (1-2) came back to win the opening set 26-24, before falling in set two by a 25-10 margin. The back-and-forth match continued as the Bearcats won set three 25-19 and the Lions took the fourth set 25-22 to force a fifth set. Behrend controlled the fifth set, winning 15-8 to hand the Bearcats a 3-2 loss.

Meegan Williams recorded her third consecutive double-double with 13 kills and 17 digs to lead Saint Vincent. Dakota Hershberger recorded a 10-kill, 13-dig double-double as well. Sani Jones added 17 assists and 15 digs in the loss as well. Lauren Fox totaled six blocks and Madie Eagler recorded 11 assists. 

With the opening set tied 24-24, Williams and Hershberger recorded back-to-back kills to put the Bearcats up 1-0 in the match. Behrend tied the match with a second set win.

In the third set, it was once again tied late at 19-19. The Bearcats went on to score the final six consecutive points to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The Bearcats had a chance to win it in the fourth set as the set was tied 22-22, but the Lions went on to score the final three points to win the set and force a fifth set.

It was all Behrend in the final set as the Bearcats fell in the five set match.

Saint Vincent out blocked Behrend by an 8-6 clip.

The Bearcats return to action on Wednesday, September 3 as they travel to Carnegie Mellon for a non-conference matchup. Opening serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening in Pittsburgh.
