Saint Vincent College hosts PAC Football Media Day

LATROBE, Pa. (Aug. 6) – For the 18th consecutive season, Saint Vincent College played host to the annual Presidents' Athletic Conference Football Media Day.

The 11 PAC football-playing institutions were each represented by their head coach and one student-athlete at the event, held in the Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion on the SVC campus. Other attendees in the crowd of more than 100 included media members along with athletic directors and sports information personnel from the PAC institutions.

Saint Vincent head coach Casey Goff was joined by rising senior offensive lineman Anthony Capozzoli.

"It has been a fast transition," Goff told the crowd after a question about his acclimation process to Saint Vincent. "After being hired in January, it has been a process where you've just had to dive in. We needed to get an idea of what our student-athletes mentality is and what it needs to be. It has certainly been a fun process and we've gone in full force and feel good about where we are."

"There is only so much you can tell about a team over a course of a spring season. The one thing I won't question is our student-athletes work ethic. I was incredibly impressed in terms of (the team's) work ethic this spring and what we were asking of them because it wasn't easy."

Last season, Capozzoli was one of the Bearcats top offensive lineman and one of the go to leaders on the team as well.

"My personal goals for the season are just to make sure my teammates keep their heads up," he said. "No matter if we're winning by 40 or losing by 40, what's most important to me is the team atmosphere and mentality. I want to see how we can continue to move forward."

Capozzoli was humbled to be viewed as a leader by his coaches and teammates.

"My teammates are my brothers and I want them to be able to resemble what I stand for," he said. "I don't really see myself as a leader, I see myself as one of the 11 with my teammates on the field."

Prior to the on-stage interviews with the coaches and student-athletes, the event started with a brief welcome from PAC commissioner Joe Onderko and Saint Vincent College Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Dr. Jeff Mallory, which was followed by John Sacco being honored posthumously as the 2025 recipient of the PAC's Dow Carnahan Media Award. Carnahan, the longtime play-by-play announcer for Saint Vincent College football and basketball, passed away unexpectedly in 2016. The award is presented annually to a distinguished member of the media or on-campus representative for their exceptional coverage and promotion of the PAC and its student-athletes and institutions.

PAC Media Day wrapped up with the release of the league's preseason poll, voted upon at the event by coaches, media members and sports information directors.

Defending PAC co-champion Washington and Jefferson, which advanced to the 2024 NCAA Division III Tournament, topped the poll with 431 total points and 17 of a possible 42 first-place votes. Following W&J was Grove City, who was picked second and Westminster rounding out the top three.

The Bearcats were tabbed ninth in the poll, with 152 points.

Saint Vincent will open the 2025 season on Saturday, Sept. 6, hosting Hilbert for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
