LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 9)- The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team fell in five sets to Penn State-Altoona on Tuesday night.
The Bearcats (1-4) took two of the first three sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-21, before falling in the final two sets by scores of 25-18 and 15-12 in the decisive fifth set.
Vivian Wirth led Saint Vincent with 16 kills.
Lauren Fox added 13 kills and four blocks for the Bearcats.
Dakota Hershberger recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 16 digs.Â
Brenna McCracken totaled 26 digs and
Mikena Marino recorded 16 digs in the loss.
Madie Eagler and
Sani Jones totaled 24 and 21 assists each in the loss.
Trailing 2-1 in the match, Penn State-Altoona cruised to a 25-18 win in set four to force the fifth set.
The teams traded back-and-forth in the fifth with the Lions jumping out to a quick 8-4 advantage. SVC wouldn't go down without a fight as they went on an 8-4 run of their own to tie the set at 12-12. Penn State-Altoona went on to score the final three points in the set to pick up the set win and hand the Bearcats the non-conference loss.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Wednesday, September 17 as they host Franciscan in their first PAC matchup of the season. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Center.
