NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Jan. 10) – The Saint Vincent women's basketball team delivered a complete performance Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 73-39 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory at Westminster College.
The Bearcats improve to 9-4 overall and 4-0 in PAC play, while Westminster falls to 4-9 and 1-3 in league action.
Saint Vincent jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, opening with a 21-11 first quarter and building a double-digit advantage at every break.
The Bearcats shot 43.1 percent from the field (31-of-72) while holding Westminster to 34.8 percent shooting (16-of-46), showcasing offensive balance and stifling defense throughout the afternoon.
Emerson Peffer led the Bearcats with 15 points, going 7-of-9 from the floor and sparking Saint Vincent's offense early and often.
Makenna Maier and
Camdon Bashor each scored 12, combining for efficient scoring and play making, while
Olivia Yancy added 10 points with valuable contributions to the Saint Vincent offense.
Reese Gadsby supported the effort with eight points, and
Danielle Pontius chipped in six as part of a deep scoring effort.
Saint Vincent's defense dictated the tempo, holding Westminster to just 11 points in the first quarter and stifling the home team through all four periods. The Bearcats' pressure forced turnovers and limited second-chance opportunities, helping SVC dominate in points off turnovers and fast break production.
After establishing control early, Saint Vincent continued to push its lead in the second half, outscoring Westminster 19-15 in the third and 18-2 in the fourth. The decisive closing quarter underscored the Bearcats' defensive intensity and commitment to execution on both ends of the floor.
With the victory, Saint Vincent remains undefeated in Presidents' Athletic Conference play. The Bearcats return to action on Wednesday, January 14 with a home PAC matchup against Chatham. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Center on Wednesday night.
