Men's Swimming Ava Sutter

Swimming sweeps Westminster on senior day

LATROBE, Pa. (Jan. 31)- The Saint Vincent men's and women's swimming team's swept Westminster at home on senior day.

The Bearcats women's team earned a 162-100 victory, while the men's team won by a score of 190-58.

For the women seniors Sydney Burton, Emma Martz, and Rachel Hutchinson were recognized. The Bearcats took the lead early with a win in the 200-yard medley relay that was made of sophomore Fallyn Zembiec and juniors Teresa Grimm, CC Hickin, and Adrianna Grimm.  

The Titans took the 1000 but SVC came back in the mid-distance events with Hutchinson taking first in both the 200- and 500- yard freestyles. Zembiec continues her dominance in the backstroke winning both the 100- and 200- backstroke events.  

Martz had another big showing for her final home meet pulling wins in both the 100- yard butterfly and breaststroke. She also raced to a 2nd place finish in the 200- yard breaststroke. Junior Adrianna Grimm had two wins in the 50- and 100- yard freestyles.  

Junior Teresa Grimm won the 200- yard breaststroke and got 2nd in the 200- yard individual medley.  Junior Brook McDermott had a 2nd and a 3rd place finish in the 1000- yard and 500- yard freestyles, while freshman Ava Sutter got 2nd in the 50- yard freestyle and 100- yard backstroke.  

To end off the meet the women won the 200- yard freestyle relay by a large margin. This relay consisted of Hickin, Zembiec, Sutter, and Adrianna Grimm.   

For the men seniors Jacob Dzurica, Alex Leskovansky, Hayden Klein, Jacob Bacasa, and Anton Seifert. The Bearcats took the lead early with a 1,2,3 win in the 200-yard medley relay. 

Individually Bacasa started the day off with a win in the 1000- yard freestyle and he would later follow it up with a 3rd place finish in 200- yard breaststroke. After the distance events were over, Dzurica won his events of the 100- yard freestyle and 100- yard backstroke.  

Junior Liam Randolph continues to dominate the breaststroke events with wins in both the 100- and 200- yard breaststrokes. In his off events, freshman William Schauss was still able to pull away with two wins in the 200- yard butterfly and backstroke.  

The swim of the day went to freshman Evan Zeni who went under 5:00 for the first time in the 500- yard freestyle securing the win. Sophomore Giovanni Guido also snagged a win int eh final individual event: the 200- yard individual medley.  

To end off the meet the men were able to finish the same way they started, going 1,2 and 3 in a relay. The 200- yard freestyle relay ended in a Bearcat dominance with the winning relay being made up of the graduating seniors.  

The Bearcats will compete next at the PAC swimming championships, which begin on Wednesday, February 18.
