LATROBE, Pa. (Feb. 14) – The Saint Vincent women's basketball team honored its senior class Saturday afternoon at the Robert S. Carey Center where they defeated Hiram by a score of 74-58.
With the result, Saint Vincent moves to 17-6 overall and 12-2 in PAC play, while Hiram improves to 7-16 and 4-10 in league action.
The Bearcats set the tone early with an impressive first quarter, outscoring the Terriers 26-9 behind efficient shooting and active defense that led to easy transition chances. Hiram battled back in the second, cutting into the margin before halftime, and the teams played evenly through the third and fourth quarters.
Senior standout
Makenna Maier led the Bearcats with 16 points, connecting on 6-of-11 shooting and 3-of-7 from three-point range, while adding four rebounds and four assists in a complete performance.
Camdon Bashor delivered 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting, grabbing six rebounds and providing strong presence around the basket.
Danielle Pontius scored nine, going 3-of-6 from the field and hitting her lone three-pointer, and
Avina Norman added 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting to fuel Saint Vincent's early scoring surge.
Brooke Evans scored 11 points and hit 4-of-7 shooting, while
Emerson Peffer finished with six points and five rebounds in limited minutes.
Olivia Yancy contributed six points and two steals, helping keep the Bearcats competitive through the middle quarters.
For Hiram, Sarah Seaman led all scorers with 19 points on 6-of-16 shooting, including 4-of-11 from three, and Maya Joiner added 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Isabella Caceres scored 13, while Advika Srinivasan chipped in six, pacing the Terriers' effort in the second half.
Saint Vincent's early offensive burst featured 40 points in the paint and 19 points off turnovers, but turnovers in the second and third quarters and a surge by Hiram from beyond the arc helped the Terriers erase the early deficit and pull away.
The Bearcats finished shooting 48.3 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from three, while Hiram shot 37.0 percent overall and 47.6 percent from long range.
Prior to the game, Saint Vincent honored their senior class.
