Men's basketball picks up double digit win on senior day

LATROBE, Pa. (Feb. 14) – The Saint Vincent men's basketball team turned a tight halftime game into a convincing Presidents' Athletic Conference win Saturday night, using a 50-point second half to defeat Hiram College 86-69 at the Robert S. Carey Center.
 
With the victory, the Bearcats improved to 16-7 overall and 11-3 in PAC play, while the Terriers fell to 5-18 overall and 1-13 in conference action.
 
After trailing 38-36 at the break, Saint Vincent flipped the momentum coming out of halftime, outscoring Hiram 50-31 over the final 20 minutes.
 
The Bearcats shot 44.8% from the floor (30-of-67) and knocked down 10 three-pointers (10-of-22, 45.5%), while also creating extra possessions by dominating the glass 47-31 and turning those rebounds into a 20-9 advantage in second-chance points.
 
Saint Vincent also found success pushing the pace, finishing with 16 fast-break points, and the Bearcats' ball movement was sharp throughout, totaling 16 assists while committing just 12 turnovers.
 
Individually, Dev Ostrowski led the Bearcats with 22 points, drilling five three-pointers (5-of-10) as part of a strong all-around night. Jaden Gales followed with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting, adding nine rebounds and four assists.
 
Jevontae Jones scored 10 points and was a force on the boards with eight rebounds, while Mike Iuzzolino and Terek Crosby each added eight points, with Crosby knocking down two threes off the bench. Running the offense, Maxwell Gordon handed out 10 assists, helping Saint Vincent's balanced attack stretch the lead in the second half.
 
Hiram was paced by Collin Jones' 20 points, while the Terriers shot 46.7% (28-of-60) overall but were held to 4-of-18 from three (22.2%) as Saint Vincent pulled away late.
 
Prior to the game, the Bearcats honored their senior class. Student assistants Tony Richards and Julien Vonovier, along with Dev Ostrowski, Jaden Gales, Jadakis Mack, Jaden Bailey, Jevontae Jones, and Nick Peccon were all honored before the game.
 
The Bearcats return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 18 with a PAC road matchup at Franciscan. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
