LATROBE, Pa. (Feb. 14) – The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team earned a 13-8 Presidents Athletic Conference victory over Westminster College (Pa.) Saturday afternoon at UPMC Field.
The win improves the Bearcats to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in PAC play, while the Presidents drop to 0-1 and 0-1 in league action.
Saint Vincent struck early and carried momentum throughout much of the contest, outscoring Westminster 4-1 in the first quarter and building a lead it would never relinquish.
The Bearcats' offense was paced by a balanced group, with multiple players contributing to Saint Vincent's 13-goal output.
Senior
Reed Hunt led the Bearcats with four goals on the afternoon, finishing a perfect 4-of-5 shooting with five shots and five shots on goal.
Calvin Rose added three goals and an assist, posting a team-high four points while also collecting three ground balls.
Attackman
Liam McCall finished with a game-high six points (2 goals, 4 assists), creating multiple scoring opportunities and dominating in transition.
Saint Vincent also got contributions from
Owen Rogers (2 goals) and
Neal Ritchie (1), while
Jonathan Nagy chipped in three points (1 goal, 2 assists) and picked up key possessions.
The Bearcats finished with 40 total shots, 22 on goal, and held a 28-23 advantage in ground balls, helping sustain offense and possession throughout the afternoon.
In net,
Garrett Ritts earned the victory, making 12 saves to keep the Titans at bay, while Westminster's keeper finished with nine stops. Saint Vincent also forced multiple turnovers (24) that fueled transition chances and kept the Bearcats ahead on the scoreboard.
Westminster's offense was led by Ethan Kurtz (2 goals) and contributed by a pair of scores from Garrett Henning, Grady Tierney, Kyler Nigliazzo, Anthony Trella and Brady Skinner.
Saint Vincent also outshot Westminster 40-35 and overcame an early deficit in faceoff play to control possessions late in the contest.
The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, February 21 with a road non-conference matchup at Immaculata University. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. next Saturday afternoon.
