BETHANY, W.Va. (Feb. 17) – The Saint Vincent men's volleyball team delivered a complete performance on Tuesday night, controlling all three sets to earn a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-15) Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Bethany College inside Hummel Field House.
The Bearcats improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in PAC play, while the Bison fell to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
Saint Vincent set the tone from the opening serve, quickly building separation in each set behind efficient offense and steady pressure from the service line. The Bearcats finished the night with 30 kills compared to Bethany's 15 and recorded 10 service aces, consistently putting the Bison out of system and limiting their offensive options.
The Bearcats were also strong at the net, totaling seven team blocks while limiting Bethany's attackers to few clean looks. The middle of the net was particularly effective during the second set, when Saint Vincent shut down multiple Bethany attempts during a decisive run that turned a close early score into a double-digit advantage.
Offensively,
Zebadiah Wyant led all players with 14 kills on .500 hitting, consistently terminating points in transition and on out-of-system swings while also contributing three service aces and three blocks in a dominant all-around performance.
Shawn McSwiggen provided steady production from the outside with five kills, while also helping stabilize serve receive and defense with four digs.
Braeden Artman added four kills and was efficient at the net, contributing to Saint Vincent's ability to convert high-percentage opportunities throughout the match.
Setter
Jack Ryan directed the offense with 23 assists, keeping the Bearcats in rhythm across all rotations while also contributing two aces and three blocks. Defensively, Saint Vincent was anchored in the back row by Ryan,
Jackson Genicola, and McSwiggen, who each finished with four digs, allowing the Bearcats to extend rallies and create additional scoring chances in transition.
The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, February 21 with a home PAC matchup against Grove City. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Center.
