LATROBE, Pa. (Feb. 4) – The Saint Vincent men's basketball team turned in one of its most complete performances of the season Tuesday night, rolling to a 92–53 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Waynesburg University at the Robert S. Carey Center.
With the win, the Bearcats improve to 13–7 overall and 8–3 in PAC play, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 6-16 and 2-9 in PAC play.
Saint Vincent set the tone early and never let up, opening the game with a fast pace and efficient shooting to build a 48–26 halftime advantage.
The Bearcats finished the night shooting 48.5 percent from the field (33-of-68) and 41.4 percent from three-point range (12-of-29), while converting 14-of-17 from the free-throw line. SVC's depth showed throughout the contest, as the Bearcats outscored Waynesburg in bench points and fast-break points, keeping pressure on the Yellow Jackets in every phase of the game.
The Bearcats were led offensively by
Dev Ostrowski, who scored 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including four three-pointers.
Jaden Gales added 17 points and 10 rebounds, recording a double-double while controlling the glass.
Terek Crosby chipped in 11 points, while B.J. Busbee scored 10 off the bench, as Saint Vincent placed multiple players in double figures during the lopsided win.
Defensively, the Bearcats limited Waynesburg to 30.9 percent shooting from the floor and just 26.3 percent from beyond the arc, contesting nearly every look and forcing the Yellow Jackets into difficult possessions. Saint Vincent's activity in the passing lanes and ability to close out on shooters helped prevent Waynesburg from finding any consistent rhythm.
Saint Vincent controlled the tempo throughout the second half, continuing to extend the margin with balanced scoring and defensive stops as the Bearcats cruised to the home PAC victory.
The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, February 7 with a road matchup against PAC opponent Thiel College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Greenville.
