LATROBE, Pa. (Mar. 10)- The Saint Vincent baseball team split a doubleheader at Mount Aloysius on Tuesday afternoon.
The Bearcats fell in the opener of the doubleheader by a score of 17-10, before earning a 9-6 win in game two.
Game 1- Mount Aloysius 17, Saint Vincent 10
Saint Vincent collected 18 hits in the setback, but the Mounties used a seven-run third inning and a six-run fifth to pull away.

The Bearcats struck first in the top of the third. After Armani LoRusso reached and came around to score, Dylan Schmude ripped an RBI triple to right center to put Saint Vincent in front, 1-0. Later in the inning, Lane Golkosky followed with an RBI single to center to extend the lead to 2-0. Mount Aloysius answered in the bottom half, however, plating seven runs on six hits, highlighted by a three-run home run from Trent Dickson and a two-run double from Tyler Day, to move in front 7-2.

Saint Vincent responded with three runs in the fourth to trim the deficit. Traynor Janosko scored on an RBI single from LoRusso before Chuck Fontana lined a two-run single to center, bringing home Schmude and LoRusso to make it a 7-5 game. Mount Aloysius again had the answer in the bottom of the inning, scoring four more times to stretch the lead to 11-5.

The Bearcats got one back in the fifth when Ben Hudson singled home Isiah Petty, but Mount Aloysius broke things open with six runs in the bottom of the frame. Saint Vincent showed late fight in the seventh, beginning with a solo home run to center from Jacob Auld. Hudson later added an RBI single, LoRusso drove in another with a base hit through the left side and Golkosky lifted a sacrifice fly to center to cap the scoring.

Schmude led the Bearcats offensively with a huge 5-for-5 afternoon, adding two runs scored and an RBI. Golkosky finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Auld went 2-for-4 with a homer and an RBI. Hudson totaled two hits and two RBIs, LoRusso scored twice and drove in two runs, while Janosko and Petty each added two hits and two runs scored. Fontana also drove in a pair for Saint Vincent.

On the mound, Grady Hoppel was charged with the loss for Saint Vincent.
Game 2- Saint Vincent 9, Mount Aloysius 6

The Bearcats struck first in the top of the second inning. Jacob Auld led off with a single before Ryan Tierney added a base hit to put runners in scoring position. Brayden Macaluso then lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Auld to score and giving Saint Vincent an early 1-0 lead.

Saint Vincent extended the advantage with a big third inning. Lane Golkosky reached base and later scored on an RBI single from Nolan Hurd to make it 2-0. The Bearcats continued to apply pressure as Isiah Petty singled and later came around to score on a Mount Aloysius error before Traynor Janosko added an RBI single to center field, pushing the lead to 4-0.

Mount Aloysius got on the board in the bottom half of the third with an RBI single from Anthony Maseto, but Saint Vincent responded with four more runs in the fourth inning. After Brooklyn Hicks singled and Dylan Schmude walked, Golkosky reached on an error that allowed Hicks to score. Moments later, Hurd delivered the biggest swing of the afternoon, blasting a three-run home run to right-center field to extend the Bearcats' lead to 8-1.

The Mounties chipped away at the deficit with two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth before adding another run in the sixth, but the Bearcats held firm to secure the 9-6 victory.

Hurd led the Saint Vincent offense with a 2-for-4 performance that included a home run and four RBIs. Ryan Tierney went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base, while Isiah Petty and Brooklyn Hicks each recorded two hits. Janosko also added an RBI, and Macaluso drove in a run with his second-inning sacrifice fly.
On the mound, Andrew Bell earned the victory after tossing three innings and allowing three runs while striking out four. Garrett Knapp and Connor Soska combined to close out the final four innings to secure the win.

The Bearcats will return to action later this week as they travel to Virginia to take on the Apprentice School in a four game series, beginning Friday, March 14. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
