Men's tennis takes down Pitt Greensburg, 6-1

GREENSBURG, Pa. (Mar. 13) - The Saint Vincent men's tennis team returned to action after ten days of rest with a 6-1 win against crosstown rival, Pitt-Greensburg.

The win for the Bearcats (5-2) marks the 20th consecutive win in the Battle of Route 30 for the Green and Gold.

Doubles play started with a forfeit win at third doubles by Pitt-Greensburg to give SVC an early advantage. J.T. Gockel and Julien Vonovier clinched the doubles point and gave the Bearcats a 1-0 match lead with a decisive 6-0 win at second doubles.

Braden Yokopenic and Blaise Bukovac finished off doubles with a 6-1 win at the top spot.

The Bobcats also forfeited sixth singles due to a lack of players, giving SVC a 2-0 match lead to begin singles. Timothy Jakubek kept the pedal to the floor and put the Green and Gold on the verge of a match win with a 6-1, 6-3 win at third singles. Matthew Sadusky continued his stellar year and sealed the deal for the Bearcats with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number one singles.

With the match in hand Brady Johnson and William Hinkson IV put the final points on the board with straight sets wins at second and fourth singles respectively.

SVC will have a quick turnaround as they hit the road for a doubleheader against Immaculata on Saturday, March 14. Match one is slated to begin at 2:00PM.
