LATROBE, Pa. (Mar. 14)— The Saint Vincent College men's volleyball team continued its strong stretch on Saturday afternoon, defeating Chatham University in straight sets at the Robert S. Carey Center.
With the win, the Bearcats improved to 11-2 overall and remained a perfect 7-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play, while extending their winning streak to 11 consecutive matches.
Saint Vincent earned the sweep by set scores of 25-21, 25-21, and 25-12. After fending off Chatham in a pair of competitive opening sets, the Bearcats closed the match in dominant fashion by limiting the Cougars to just 12 points in the third. Saint Vincent hit .270 as a team in the match, compared to .073 for Chatham.
The Bearcats were led offensively by
Shawn McSwiggen, who totaled a match-high 12 kills while hitting .321 and adding three service aces, seven digs, and 15.0 points.
Zebadiah Wyant also turned in a big performance with 10 kills on .375 hitting, three assists, one ace, six digs, two solo blocks, and 13.0 points.
Owen Ward added four kills on just six attacks and hit an impressive .667 in the win.
Jack Ryan paced the Saint Vincent offense with 27 assists while also contributing two kills, eight digs, and two total blocks. At the net,
Braeden Artman posted a team-best four total blocks, including three solo stuffs, while
Rocco Marino added three blocks, including two solo, to go along with two kills on .333 hitting.
Defensively,
Jackson Genicola anchored the back row with a team-high 13 digs. As a team, the Bearcats finished with 34 kills, 30 assists, six service aces, 10 total blocks, and 43 digs, while holding Chatham to 30 kills and forcing the Cougars into 22 attack errors. Tim McCabe led Chatham with 12 kills.
The Bearcats return to action on Wednesday, March 18, with a 7 p.m. road conference matchup at Grove City.
