Women's lacrosse takes down Thiel in PAC opener for fifth consecutive victory

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Mar. 19) — The Saint Vincent College women's lacrosse team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play in dominant fashion Thursday night, rolling to a 17-2 road win over Thiel College.
 
The Bearcats moved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in PAC play.
 
Saint Vincent took control immediately, scoring the game's first six goals to lead 6-0 after one quarter. The Bearcats then erupted for seven more goals in the second period and carried a 13-1 advantage into halftime.
 
SVC added three goals in the third and closed out the night with a 1-1 fourth quarter for the 17-2 final.
 
MaryKatherine New and Chloe Herring paced the Bearcat offense with four goals apiece, while Katie Smith added three goals and two assists.
 
Carolina Walters totaled two goals and four assists, and Melanie Seefeldt finished with two goals and four assists. Cara Dupilka and Valeria Hurtado each also scored in the win.
 
Seefeldt and Walters shared the team lead with six points each, while Smith added five points and New finished with four. Saint Vincent also got strong work in the draw circle from New, who recorded a team-high four draw controls, while Smith added three and Dupilka collected two.
 
Defensively, Chloe Herring turned in a standout all-around performance with a team-best 10 ground balls and two caused turnovers.
 
Walters added six ground balls, New had four, and Cassidy Rega and Ava Baeslach each chipped in three as the Bearcats finished with a 32-20 edge in ground balls. Saint Vincent also held advantages in shots, 32-13, shots on goal, 21-4, and draw controls, 13-8, while converting 11 of 12 clear attempts.
 
In goal, Cassidy Rega played all 60 minutes and made five saves while allowing just two goals to earn the win.
 
Saint Vincent returns to action on Wednesday, March 25 with a home PAC matchup against Westminster. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
