Women's lacrosse drops PAC matchup against Westminster

LATROBE, Pa. (March 25) — The Saint Vincent College women's lacrosse team fell to Westminster College, 15-7, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action Wednesday night at UPMC Field.
 
Westminster improved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in PAC play, while the Bearcats moved to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in conference action.
 
Westminster seized control early, scoring the game's first nine goals in the opening quarter. Felicia Young scored four times in the first period, while Allyssa Anstis added two goals to help the Titans build a 9-0 lead after 15 minutes.
 
Westminster pushed the margin to 11-0 in the second quarter before Saint Vincent got on the board with 1:08 left in the half, as Melanie Seefeldt scored off an assist from Carolina Walters to make it 11-1 at the break.
 
The Bearcats showed more life in the second half. Cara Dupilka scored a man-up free-position goal at the 10:45 mark of the third quarter, and Seefeldt followed just over a minute later off an assist from Katie Smith.
 
After Westminster answered, Chloe Herring converted a man-up goal from Seefeldt to make it 12-4. In the fourth, Seefeldt completed her hat trick off an assist from Herring, before Herring and Smith each added unassisted goals to account for the 15-7 final.
 
Seefeldt led Saint Vincent offensively with three goals and one assist for four points, while Herring added two goals and one assist. Smith finished with a goal and an assist, Dupilka scored once, and Walters chipped in an assist.
 
Dupilka led the Bearcats with six shots, including four on goal, and also recorded two draw controls. Cassidy Rega made 10 saves in goal and added a team-high seven ground balls. Ava Baeslach collected three ground balls and one draw control, while Saint Vincent finished 2-for-4 on free-position chances.
 
As a team, Westminster held the edge in shots, 36-17, shots on goal, 23-10, ground balls, 22-20, and draw controls, 19-6. Both teams committed 18 turnovers, while Saint Vincent went 13-for-19 on clears.
 
Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, March 28 with a road matchup at Geneva. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday in Beaver Falls.
