Men's volleyball concludes season in PAC Semifinals

LATROBE, Pa. (Apr. 9) — The Saint Vincent College men's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference semifinal decision to No. 3 Chatham University Thursday night at the Robert S. Carey Center.
 
Chatham won by set scores of 25-23, 25-21, 19-25 and 25-17.
 
Saint Vincent battled throughout the opening set, recording 12 kills and hitting .167 as a team, but Chatham was able to edge out the Bearcats late for a 25-23 win. The Cougars carried that momentum into the second set, posting 16 kills on a .270 hitting percentage to take a 25-21 decision and a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
The Bearcats answered in the third set with their strongest play of the night. Saint Vincent totaled 14 kills with just two errors on 34 attempts for a .353 hitting percentage in the frame, rolling to a 25-19 victory to extend the match.
 
Chatham, however, responded in the fourth set, hitting .353 with 17 kills to close out the match with a 25-17 win.
 
Shawn McSwiggen led Saint Vincent offensively with 14 kills, while Zebadiah Wyant added 11 kills, two service aces, 10 digs and two blocks.
 
Tyler Nelson chipped in seven kills and five block assists, while Rocco Marino turned in an efficient night with six kills on 14 swings without an error for a .429 hitting percentage to go along with a match-high seven total blocks.
 
Jack Ryan paced the offense with 38 assists and added 10 digs, and Jackson Genicola led the back row with 11 digs.
 
As a team, Saint Vincent finished with 47 kills, 43 assists, 47 digs, two aces and 15 total blocks. The Bearcats held the edge in blocks, 15-8, while Chatham posted advantages in kills (58-47), assists (55-43), digs (63-47) and points (68.0-64.0). Both teams were nearly even in hitting percentage, with the Cougars finishing at .205 and Saint Vincent at .204.
 
Saint Vincent closes their season out with a 14-5 overall record and 10-2 record in PAC play.
