Men's tennis splits weekend road matchups

WESTMINSTER, Md./ STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Apr. 11)- The Saint Vincent men's tennis team split their two weekend matchups on Friday and Saturday.
 
On Friday, the Bearcats earned a 6-1 win at McDaniel in non-conference play, while falling by a slight 4-3 defeat to Franciscan in PAC play on Saturday.
 
Friday Match- Saint Vincent 6, McDaniel 1
The Saint Vincent College men's tennis team earned a 6-1 road victory over McDaniel College Friday afternoon at the Warfield Tennis Courts. With the win, the Bearcats improved to 12-3 overall, while the Green Terror fell to 0-5.
 
Saint Vincent claimed the doubles point with wins in all three flights. At No. 1 doubles, Matthew Sadusky and Brady Johnson defeated Jake Kegley and Connor Neal, 6-4.
 
Kyle Murray and Julien Vonovier followed with a 6-0 victory over Justin Edwards and Sylvan Eichenlaub at No. 2, while William Hinkson IV and Timothy Jakubek picked up a win by default at No. 3 doubles.
 
In singles play, the Bearcats won five of the six matches. Matthew Sadusky posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Connor Neal at No. 2 singles, Brady Johnson earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Justin Edwards at No. 3, and J.T. Gockel added a 6-2, 6-1 win over Nick Ferraro in the fourth flight.
 
At No. 5 singles, William Hinkson IV secured a 6-1, 7-5 decision over Sylvan Eichenlaub, while Timothy Jakubek was awarded a win by default at No. 6 singles.
 
McDaniel's lone point came at No. 1 singles, where Jake Kegley defeated Blaise Bukovac in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.
 
Saturday Match- Franciscan 4, Saint Vincent 3
he Saint Vincent College men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 Presidents' Athletic Conference match to Franciscan University on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Bearcats moved to 12-4 overall and 3-2 in PAC play, while the Barons improved to 5-12 overall and 3-3 in conference action.
 
Franciscan claimed the doubles point by taking the top two flights. At No. 1 doubles, Aaron Heinlein and Christopher Yvars defeated Braden Yokopenic and Blaise Bukovac, 6-0, while David Bourdelais and Kolbe Olszewski earned a 6-1 win over Brady Johnson and Matthew Sadusky at No. 2.
 
Saint Vincent's lone doubles victory came at No. 3, where Julien Vonovier and Kyle Murray posted a 6-3 decision over David Drejza and Matthew Suess.
 
The Bearcats answered with three singles wins. Matthew Sadusky earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Bourdelais at No. 3 singles, Brady Johnson was a 6-1, 6-3 winner against Drejza at No. 4, and Kyle Murray added a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Suess in the sixth flight.
 
Franciscan secured the match with victories in the remaining three singles contests. Heinlein defeated Yokopenic, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 singles, while Yvars topped Bukovac, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 2. The deciding point came at No. 5 singles, where Kolbe Olszewski outlasted Vonovier in three sets, 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-2).
 
Saint Vincent returns to action on Monday, April 13 with a home PAC matchup against W&J. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the SVC Courts on Monday evening.
