WASHINGTON, Pa. (Apr. 15) – The Saint Vincent College men's lacrosse team turned in a dominant all-around effort Wednesday afternoon, rolling to a 22-2 Presidents' Athletic Conference road victory over Washington & Jefferson College at Alexandre Stadium.
With the win, the Bearcats improved to 8-6 overall and 6-2 in PAC play.
Saint Vincent took control from the outset and never looked back, building a 4-0 lead after the opening quarter before adding seven more goals in the second to take an 11-0 advantage into halftime. The Bearcats then scored seven times again in the third quarter to push the lead to 18-0 before closing out the 22-2 final.
Luca Blevins opened the scoring at the 11:31 mark of the first quarter, and
Calvin Rose followed just 30 seconds later as Saint Vincent grabbed the early momentum.
Jonathan Nagy and
Ryan Rosenberger also scored in the opening frame, while the Bearcats continued to pour it on in the second quarter with goals from
Reed Hunt, Blevins,
Landon Flock, Nagy, Rose,
Max Radcliffe and
Jonathan Nagy again.
Saint Vincent kept its foot on the gas after halftime, getting third-quarter goals from
Bryan Millward,
Neal Ritchie, Rose twice, Hunt,
Owen Rogers on the man-up and
Connor Smith. Radcliffe, Blevins, Rosenberger and Rogers added fourth-quarter goals to cap the scoring.
Rogers led the Bearcats with five points on two goals and three assists, while Rose also totaled five points with four goals and one assist.
Hunt and Smith each posted four points, with Hunt recording two goals and two assists and Smith adding one goal and three assists. Blevins and Nagy each scored three goals, while Rosenberger and Radcliffe both finished with two goals. Ritchie contributed three points on a goal and two assists.
In faceoffs, Rose dominated play by winning 15 of 18 draws while also scooping up a game-high nine ground balls. As a team, Saint Vincent won the faceoff battle 19-8 and held a 43-28 edge in ground balls. The Bearcats also outshot Washington & Jefferson 55-23, including a 38-9 advantage in shots on goal, while forcing 26 Presidents turnovers.
Defensively, Saint Vincent was just as sharp, limiting Washington & Jefferson to no goals through the first three quarters and only two scores in the final period.
Tyler Friend made six saves over the opening 30 minutes, while
Jackson Blow earned the win and
Garrett Ritts added one save late as the Bearcats combined for seven stops in goal.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, April 18 with a home PAC matchup against Hiram in the regular season finale. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. with senior day festivities taking place after the conclusion of the game.
