LATROBE, Pa. (May 2) – The Saint Vincent baseball team split their 2026 season finale doubleheader against Grove City at a cold Bearcat Ballfield on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats came back from a four-run deficit to win game one 5-4 on a walk off, before the Wolverines earned a 7-2 win in game two.
Game 1- Saint Vincent 5, Grove City 4
The Saint Vincent College baseball team erased an early four-run deficit, scoring twice in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk off with a 5-4 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Grove City College on Saturday afternoon at Bearcat Ballfield.
The win moved the Bearcats to 13-23 overall and 8-13 in PAC play, while Grove City fell to 18-16 overall and 13-8 in the conference.
Grove City opened the scoring in the top of the second inning, as Kyle Rhineberger singled home Treyton Sarvis to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead. The visitors then added three more runs in the third, using an RBI single from Colin Marinpetro, an RBI double from Adam Weber and a sacrifice fly from Raymond Stierer to extend the lead to 4-0.
Saint Vincent began chipping away in the bottom half of the third.
Armani LoRusso drew a walk, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch, before
Dylan Schmude singled to third base to score LoRusso and cut the deficit to 4-1.
The Bearcats pulled closer in the fifth. LoRusso led off with a single and came around to score on an RBI double down the right field line by Schmude, making it 4-2.
Ben Hudson then walked, and
Reid Rachwal reached on a fielder's choice, with Schmude scoring on a Grove City throwing error to bring Saint Vincent within one, 4-3.
Saint Vincent's bullpen kept the Bearcats within striking distance from there.
Gavin Roebuck entered in the fourth and threw 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two.
Connor Soska,
Anderson Ford and
Jack Reichart followed with scoreless work to keep Grove City off the scoreboard over the final five-plus innings.
The Bearcats completed the comeback in the bottom of the ninth.
Ryan Tierney entered as a pinch runner after LoRusso walked, before
Lane Golkosky singled to put runners on base. Schmude then reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Tierney to tie the game at 4-4. Two batters later,
Chuck Fontana lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Golkosky with the game-winning run and giving Saint Vincent the 5-4 walk-off victory.
Schmude led the Bearcats offensively, going 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored. LoRusso finished 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and a stolen base, while Golkosky went 2-for-3 and scored the winning run.
Isiah Petty added two hits and a stolen base, while
Traynor Janosko also recorded a hit. Fontana drove in the game-winning run with his ninth-inning sacrifice fly.
Andrew Bell started on the mound for Saint Vincent, allowing four runs over 3.1 innings. Roebuck, Soska, Ford and Reichart combined to throw 5.2 scoreless innings of relief, with Reichart earning the win after tossing a scoreless ninth.
Game 2- Grove City 7, Saint Vincent 2
The Saint Vincent College baseball team dropped the second game of Saturday's Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader to Grove City College, falling by a 7-2 score at Bearcat Ballfield.
With the loss, Saint Vincent concluded their season 13-24 overall and 8-14 in PAC play, while Grove City finished to 19-16 overall and 14-8 in conference play, qualifying for the PAC Tournament.
Grove City jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning, as Colin Marinpetro singled home David Chandler before Dan Luko reached on a fielder's choice to score Caleb Backos, giving the Wolverines a 2-0 advantage.
Saint Vincent cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third.
Traynor Janosko led off the inning with a single through the right side, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Brooklyn Hicks and came around to score on an RBI single to left field by
Dylan Schmude, making it 2-1.
Grove City answered with one run in the fourth, as Luko doubled and later scored on an RBI single by Braeden Coyle to extend the lead to 3-1. The Bearcats responded in the bottom half, with
Chuck Fontana drawing a walk and
T.J. Bucy being hit by a pitch before
Isiah Petty singled to right field, scoring Fontana and trimming the margin to 3-2.
The Wolverines broke the game open in the fifth, scoring three unearned runs to push the lead to 6-2. Marinpetro drew a bases-loaded walk, Luko followed with a sacrifice fly, and Adam Weber added an RBI single to center field. Grove City added one final run in the eighth on a Saint Vincent throwing error to account for the 7-2 final.
Petty and Janosko led the Bearcats offensively, each finishing with two hits. Petty went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Janosko went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Schmude added a hit, an RBI and a stolen base, while Fontana scored Saint Vincent's other run.
Nolan Hurd started on the mound and took the loss, allowing six runs, three earned, on seven hits over four innings.

George Wonica combined to work the final five innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one unearned run. Finniff and Greenwood each threw a scoreless inning in relief.
