Eight first half goals leads Bearcats past Mounties in non-conference action

LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 9)- The Saint Vincent women's soccer team rolled to an 8-0 victory over Mount Aloysius on Wednesday night at UPMC Field.

The Bearcats (2-1) scored all eight of their goals in the opening half, including seven in the first 21 minutes, to cruise to the non-conference victory. Emma Koller led the Saint Vincent offensive attack, recording a hat trick and adding one assist. Bella Meder dished out three assists, while Riley Kerr recorded one goal and one assist. Emily Ambrose, Lexi Graham, Jordan Kirkwood and Natalie Helman all scored one goal apiece for the Bearcats.

Ava Azurin and Faith Steen each added an assist in the win as well. Saint Vincent wasted no time getting on the board as Koller opened the scoring just 3:20 into the game on an assist from Kerr. Just over two minutes later, Meder found Ambrose, who scored to increase the Bearcats' lead to 2-0.

Koller scored her second goal of the night in the eighth minute, coming on an assist from Meder, before Kerr scored an unassisted goal in the 12th minute to give Saint Vincent a 4-0 advantage. The Bearcats continued their offensive outburst in the 18th minute. Koller completed the hat trick at the 17:10 mark on Meder's third assist of the game before Graham scored just 46 seconds later on an assist from Azurin to extend the lead to 6-0.

Kirkwood scored Saint Vincent's seventh goal in the 21st minute, with Koller picking up the assist. Helman then closed out the scoring in the 34th minute, scoring off an assist from Steen to send the Bearcats into halftime with an 8-0 lead. Neither team found the back of the net in the second half as the Saint Vincent defense finished off the shutout.

Rilyn Warner and Regan Mazur split time in net for the Bearcats. Warner played the opening 45 minutes, while Mazur made one save over the final 45 minutes to preserve the shutout. Saint Vincent dominated the offensive numbers, outshooting Mount Aloysius 30-2, including a 23-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Bearcats also held a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Koller led the Bearcats with five shots, putting all five on goal. Meder finished with three shots on goal, while Helman and Abby Sanders each added three shots on goal.

The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, September 12 when they host Penn College at UPMC Field. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday evening.
