LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 18) – The Saint Vincent women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match against Mount Aloysius by a score of 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the SVC Courts.
The Bearcats (0-4, 0-1 PAC) dropped all three doubles matches to the Mounties (3-3, 2-2 AMCC), but added their two points with wins by Kaylee Overly and Emily Meltzer in singles play.
Meltzer picked up a straight-set victory for Saint Vincent at number five singles, defeating Mariah Hall by scores of 6-3, 6-1.
Overly earned the Bearcats' second point in a tightly contested match at number four singles. After dropping the opening set to Samara Scott, 6-4, Overly battled back to win the second set, 7-6 (9-7), before winning the third-set match tiebreaker, 10-5.
Sofia Tehrani nearly added another point for Saint Vincent at number three singles. Tehrani won the opening set against Kaylee Mento, 6-4, before falling 6-2 in the second set and 10-7 in the match tiebreaker.
In the other singles matches, Sydney McWreath fell 6-0, 6-0 at number one singles, Cecilia Hickin dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision at number two, and Jade Schuffert fell 6-1, 6-1 at number six.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Monday, September 21 with a road Presidents Athletic Conference matchup at Geneva. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in Beaver Falls, Pa.
