LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 19) – The Saint Vincent men's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Grove City in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at UPMC Field.
Grove City (4-0-3, 2-0-0 PAC) scored twice in each half, while the Bearcats (3-2-0, 0-1-0 PAC) were held to just two shots in the loss.
The Wolverines opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Theo Campbell found the back of the net to give Grove City a 1-0 lead. Just over 10 minutes later, Noah Gray scored his first of two goals on the afternoon to extend the Wolverines' advantage to 2-0 heading into halftime.
Grove City added to its lead quickly in the second half, as Gray scored his second goal of the game in the 49th minute off an assist from Ryan Merrick to make it 3-0.
The Wolverines closed out the scoring in the 85th minute when Sean Mankowski scored off an assist from Flavio Escareno.
Grove City outshot Saint Vincent by a 15-2 margin, including an 11-0 advantage in shots on goal. The Wolverines also held a 15-2 advantage in corner kicks. Daniel Maddock and Oziel Bonola-Soriano recorded the two shots for the Bearcats.
Grant Archuleta took the loss in net for Saint Vincent, making seven saves over the full 90 minutes.
Saint Vincent will return to action on Tuesday, September 22, traveling to Penn State Beaver for a non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in Monaca, Pennsylvania.
