JIMMY PETRUSKA, HEAD COACH
In April 2011, Jimmy Petruska was named the second head coach in the history of the women’s basketball program at Saint Vincent College. Petruska succeeded Kristen Zawacki, the lone coach in the program’s 27-year history, who tragically passed away on Christmas Day, 2010.
Petruska was named the team’s interim head coach immediately following the loss of Coach Zawacki, and led the Bearcats to a 15-4 record and an appearance in the NCAA Division-III National Tournament in the final 19 games of the 2010-11 campaign. The Bearcats, who finished as runner-up in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference, produced a trio of All-PAC players in Brittany Sedlock, Maria Baroffio, and Devin McGrath, with Sedlock being named the conference Player of the Year as well as All-America by d3hoops.com.
Petruska began his college coaching career in Saint Vincent in 2006, serving as a graduate assistant. In July 2007, he was promoted to become the first ever full-time assistant coach in the team’s history. After the Bearcats finished 9-16 in 2007-08, Petruska helped lead the team to a 16-8 record a season later. In 2009-10, the Bearcats finished 24-5, and captured the ECAC South championship, before their 2010-11 NCAA tourney appearance.
As an assistant, Petruska was responsible for recruiting, scouting opponents, and analyzing video, while also assisting Coach Zawacki with scheduling as well as practice and game planning.
A native of Valencia, PA and 2004 graduate of Saint Vincent, Petruska began his coaching career while still a student, as an assistant at Mars High School in Pittsburgh’s northern suburbs from 2002-04, before spending the 2005-06 season at neighboring Pine-Richland High School. He also was active in the AAU coaching ranks for four seasons.
Petruska, who graduated from SVC with a degree in History, holds a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Saint Vincent. He is a 2000 graduate of Mars High School, and is the son of James and Dana Petruska – the head girls' basketball coach of Deer Lakes High School.
ASHLEY CAMPBELL, ASSISTANT COACH
Ashley Campbell joined the staff full-time in 2011-12 after serving as a part-time assistant in 2010-11. She was a four-year member of the Bearcat basketball team, starting 52 games in her career as a point guard, including all 24 her senior season.
In 2008-09, she averaged 8.4 points per game and had a career best 97 steals and 123 assists.
She is a native of Donora, PA and graduate of Ringgold High School.
BRITTANY SEDLOCK, ASSISTANT COACH
Brittany Sedlock returns to her alma mater for the 2012-13 season as an assistant coach after a stellar four-year campaign.
She tallied 1,462 points in her career, eighth most in program history, and became the school's first women's basketball All-American since joining the NCAA, after being named a d3hoops.com All-American following her junior season.
A two-time PAC Player of the Year, Sedlock led the team to two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
She is a native of Northern Cambria, PA.
