The 2021-22 season marks Kurt Mattern's seventh on the SVC women's basketball staff.
Mattern came to SVC from Penn State-Fayette, where he served as head coach of the Roaring Lions women's basketball team since 2007. His team won the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) regular season championship in 2014 and was a United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Qualifier.
His teams have earned four straight trips to the USCAA National Tournament as well as four consecutive PSUAC Final Four appearances. Mattern has coached three 1000+ point scorers, the first players ever to reach that plateau in school history.
Mattern developed one PSUAC Player of the Year, two PSUAC Freshmen of the Year, the school's first-ever USCAA All-American. He has also coached six National Academic All-Americans, and his teams earned cumulative GPAs over 3.4 four consecutive seasons.
Prior to joining PSU-Fayette, Mattern served as head boys' basketball coach at Ligonier Valley High School for 11 seasons, earning three trips to the Pennsylvania State Tournament.
A general practice dentist by trade, Mattern holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Marquette University and a bachelor of science from Mount Union College.
