Rebecca Sandor's goal with 48 seconds left in the second half lifted the Lady Bearcat soccer team to a dramatic 1-0 victory over Waynesburg on the Saint Vincent Turf.
The victory was the Lady Bearcats' third straight, and it lifts SVC's Presidents' Athletic Conference record to 3-1.
In addition to Sandor's heroics, PAC and ECAC Defensive Player of the Week
Kirstie Mills made 13 saves to earn her third consecutive shutout win in goal.
Waynesburg looked to take control early on, recording the game's first 10 shots over the opening 30 minutes, but Mills turned in five saves over that span to keep the game scoreless. For the half, the Yellow Jackets ended up with a 13-3 advantage in shots, with all three of the Lady Bearcat attempts going wide of the goal.
It was much of the same in the early to middle stages of the second half, with the Yellow Jackets controlling possession for most of the first 25 minutes, taking nine shots, but they were still unable to solve Mills.
Things started to turn in the Lady Bearcats' favor in the 75th minute.
Elyse Togliatti nearly solved the tie in the 78th minute, blasting a point-blank shot off the post.
In the 81st minute, Saint Vincent controlled the ball deep in Waynesburg territory, getting three corner kicks in a two-minute span. The Lady Bearcats were able to keep possession for the next several moments, and with 1:13 left,
Monika Derboghossian sent a blast on goal. Waynesburg keeper Katrina Kelly made the initial save, and in the ensuing scramble in front of the net,
Elyse Togliatti one-touched to Sandor in the middle of the box, who sent the ball into the lower left hand corner of the net past a sprawling Kelly with 48 seconds left on the clock.
Waynesburg tried one last push, but a last second shot from Danielle Danhires was blocked, sealing the Lady Bearcat win.
The three-game winning streak is the team's longest since the 2007 squad finished the year with six victories. After the shutout, the Lady Bearcats have not allowed a goal in 280 minutes, dating back to the second half of the team's game with Bethany on Oct. 1st.
The loss drops Waynesburg to 6-6-2 on the year, and 0-4 in conference play.
The Lady Bearcats return to action on Saturday afternoon, hosting Westminster College on Family, Friend, and Alumni Day on the Saint Vincent Turf beginning at 1pm.
