Box Score
Grove City College edged the Saint Vincent men's soccer team 1-0 in the Bearcats' 2010 home finale on the Saint Vincent Turf.
The visiting Wolverines pressed from the start, and scored the lone goal of the game in the 13th minute. Evan Moore hit a ball through traffic to a wide-open Jake Kern, who went to the goal untouched and buried it into the corner of the net exactly 13 minutes into play.
Grove City continued to put pressure on the Bearcat defense throughout the duration of the opening frame, as the Wolverines out-shot Saint Vincent 12-3 over the opening 45 minutes. Saint Vincent goalie Jake Gilbertson was forced to make six first half saves to keep the deficit at one at the intermission.
Most of the second half was much of the same, as the Wolverines out-shot SVC 8-0 in the first 20 minutes of the final stanza. Again, Gilbertson was strong, turning aside all five Wolverine shots on goal during the span, allowing the score to remain 1-0.
The Bearcats looked for a late rally, tallying three shots and two corner kicks over the final 10 minutes of regulation, but they were unable to find the net, and saw their losing streak extend to three games.
Gilbertson ended the day with 10 saves, as Grove City finished with a 24-5 advantage in shots. Wolverine keeper Chris Burgan was forced to make just one stop, finishing with the shutout win.
The loss drops the Bearcats to 3-13-2 overall and 1-5 in the PAC, while Grove City improves to 12-3-2/5-1.
Saint Vincent will now close out the season on the road, beginning with a trip to Crestview Hills, KY on Tuesday afternoon to face Thomas More College.
