Bearcats fall to Hiram

Hiram College defeated the Saint Vincent men by a score of 1-0 on the SVC turf.

The Bearcats were unable to shake off a slow start, as the Terriers out-shot SVC 15-2 over the first 45 minutes of play, and scored the game's lone goal in the game's 26th minute, a header from George Schatz from right in front.

Despite the sizeable possession advantage by the Terriers, the Bearcats were able to keep it just a one-goal deficit thanks to strong play by the defense.  Goalie Jake Gilbertson made five saves in the first half, while SVC forced 10 Hiram shots wide of goal.

Over the middle and later stages of the second half, the Bearcats began to pick up the pace, as they began to control possession with the game winding down.  The Bearcats out-shot the Terriers 4-2 over the game's final 15 minutes, but were unable to score an equalizer, and Hiram left Latrobe with the victory.

Gilbertson finished the day with seven saves in the losing effort, while Hiran goalie Joe Rottinger earned the shut out win by posting three saves.  For the game, Hiram owned a 21-7 advantage in shots.

The loss drops the Bearcats' record to 2-7-2, and the team will return to action on Friday afternoon, opening up the Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule with a 1pm home game against Bethany College on the SVC Turf.
