Bearcats fall in PAC opener

The Bearcats were defeated 2-0 by Bethany College in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener on the Saint Vincent Turf.

Saint Vincent's defense was under constant pressure, as Bethany out-shot the Bearcats 22-6, scoring one goal in each half.

The Bison opened the scoring in the game's 21st minute, when Tomas Gonzalez sent home a one-timer from 15 yards out off of a pass from Arkangelo James to make the score 1-0.

Bethany continued its offensive onslaught to open up the second half, posting nine shots and taking three corner kicks over the first 25 minutes, before James scored his team's second goal after stripping a Bearcat defender and going to goal untouched to end the day's scoring.

SVC goalie Jacob Gilbertson played all 90 minutes and made seven saves, with six coming in the second half.  Bethany's Patrick Coleman earned the shutout win by making three stops.

With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 2-8-2 on the year, and 0-1 in PAC play, while Bethany improves to 5-5-1 and 1-0 in conference.

Saint Vincent returns to action next Wednesday, Oct. 6th, traveling to Maryland to take on Frostburg State University under the lights.
