Bearcat swimmers earn first victories

Both Saint Vincent swim teams earned their first victories of the season at Pitt-Bradford, with the women earning a 119-42 win, and the Bearcat men posting a 115-90 victory.

The Lady Bearcats touched first in all 13 events, while the Bearcat men used a balanced effort to earn the victory.

In women's action, Saint Vincent was led by the trio of Jess Kennedy, Kelsey Linstrum, and Katie Custer, who all earned a pair of first place finishes.  Kennedy won the 200 Free (2:05.10), and 100 Fly (1:06.77), Linstrum the 1000 Free (11:40.94) and 100 Free (58.96), and Custer the 50 Free (25.70) and 100 Back (1:08.64).

Mary Kate Kenna finished first in the 400 Individual Medley (5:07.59), while Amanda Haile earned a pair of second places, finishing the 1000 Free with a time of 11:54.87, before turning in a time of 1:08.04 in the 100 Fly.  Sarah Denning also turned in a pair of second-place finishes, with times of 1:10.78 in the 100 Back and 27.74 in the 50 Free, while Claybrooks earned a second-place finish in the 200 Free, with a time of 2:06.85.

In relay action, Kennedy, Custer, Carolyn Claybrooks, and Christine Dunleavy teamed up to set a pool record in the 400 Medley, earning first with a time of 4:22.59.  

The Bearcat men also earned a pool record in relay action, as the foursome of Logan Dorminey, Matt Linebaugh, Adam Thomas, and Casey Whittaker took first in the 400 Free with a time of 3:25.44.  

Individually, Dorminey finished first in the 100 Free, with a time of 52.34, while Linebaugh turned in a first-place time of 1:54.42 in the 200 Free and Whittaker won the 50 Free with a time of 53 seconds flat. Whittaker nearly earned a third first-place finish, as he was edged by just .26 seconds in the 100 Fly, finishing with a time of 55.74. 

In distance events, the Bearcats also fared well, with Zack Krejdovsky winning the 1000 Free with a time of 10:51.44, and Sam Cline earning first in the 500 Free, timed in 5:14.30, followed by Krejdovsky, who took second in 5:20.83.  

Other second-place times for the Bearcats included Linebaugh in the 100 Free (52.37), Tom Nielsen in the 100 Back (59.12), and Dan Kostovny in the 100 Breast (1:05.98).

Both SVC swimming teams see their records improve to 1-1, and they will return to the pool next Saturday afternoon, hosting Penn State-Behrend beginning at 1pm.
