Bearcats earn first conference win

BOX SCORE

The Bearcats came back from a second half deficit to earn a 79-69 win over Westminster College on the road, thanks to five players scoring in double figures.

SVC and the Titans were tied at 36 with four minutes left in the first half, but four points from Dennis Bassich, along with scores from Isaac Turner and Armani Fountain allowed the Bearcats to end the half on an 8-point run to take a 44-36 lead into the half.

The lead quickly ran to ten to open the second half, but the hosts then went on a 10-point run, tying the game with 15:10 remaining in the second half.  Less than five minutes later, the Titans took the lead, 58-57, and later held a 62-59 advantage over Saint Vincent with less than ten minutes remaining.

A score by Dillon Stith, who had a career high 14 points, gave the Bearcats the lead back with with under eight minutes left (64-62), and Stith later helped to increase the lead with a dunk that started a run for the Bearcats and seemed to take the air out of Westminster.

The Bearcats ended the game by outscoring the Titans 14-4 in the final six minutes of play.

Isaac Turner led SVC with 21 points, while McGill added 17, Stith 14, Bassich 11 and Grant Latus 10.  Latus and McGill each grabbed 8 rebounds.

Steve Cress led the Titans with 13 points, but the Titans were victimized by an 8-for-37 performance from outside the 3-point arc.

With the win, Saint Vincent improves to 6-2 overall, 1-1 in the PAC.  Westminster drops to 1-5, 0-2 in the conference.
