Bearcat swimmers split tri-meet in WV


FULL RESULTS


Both the Saint Vincent men's and women's swimming teams went 1-1 in a tri-meet hosted by West Virginia Wesleyan University, with Davis & Elkins College.

The Lady Bearcats defeated Davis & Elkins 111-0, while they fell to West Virginia Wesleyan by a score of 72-50.  The Bearcat men won 101-12 against Davis & Elkins, but were defeated 90-32 by West Virginia Wesleyan.

In the women's meet, Carolyn Claybrooks led the Bearcats with a pair of first-place finishes.  In the second event of the day, she captured the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 11:25.25, while she won the 500 Free in a time of 5:37.63. Claybrooks was also part of the Bearcats' second-place 400 Free Relay team, as she joined Maggie Dempsey, Jess Kennedy, and Katie Custer to turn in a time of 3:54.90.

Custer was victorious in the 50 Free, with a time of 25.52, while she took second in the 100 Fly (1:02.97).  Christine Dunleavy added the Bearcats' third victory of the afternoon, taking the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:11.63.

Saint Vincent also added a number of second-place performances.  Kennedy touched second in both the 200 Free and 100 Free, Mary Kate Kenna the 200 Breast, Sarah Denning the 100 Back, and Kelsey Linstrum the 200 Individual Medley.  The SVC 400 Medley Relay foursome of Kennedy, Custer, Dunleavy, and Dempsey also finished second, with a time of 4:20.80.

The Bearcat men saw seven different individuals turn in second-place performances.  Sam Cline took second in the 1000 Free, Tom Nielsen the 100 Back, Troy Linebaugh the 50 Free, Adam Thomas the 200 Back, Dan Kostovny the 200 Breast, Matt Linebaugh the 100 Fly, and Zack Krejdovsky the 500 Free.

In relay action, the SVC foursome of Nielsen, Logan Dorminey, Matt Linebaugh, and Thomas also finished second, with a time of 3:31.28.

Both Bearcat squads will return to action on Saturday, traveling to Pittsburgh's Chatham University for a four-team meet with the host Cougars (women only), along with Penn State-Altoona and Bethany.
