LATROBE (Oct. 22) - The Saint Vincent men's soccer team gave its seniors a big win in their final regular season home match on the SVC Turf, defeating Thiel, 4-1, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
Sophomore
Trevor Cutlip put SVC ahead, 1-0, in the 12th-minute on an assist from junior
Gage Arnold. After a foul in the goalkeeper box against Thiel, senior
Dean Jordan recorded the game-winner on a penalty kick at the 23:52-mark. As the first half was winding down, Thiel pulled within a goal when Francis Ahia scored on a penalty kick for the Tomcats.
In the second half, Arnold again set-up a goal, this time finding freshman
Daniel Moore in the 78th-minute to push the Bearcat lead to 3-1. With under a minute left in the game, SVC added its fourth and final goal, this time when sophomore
Elom Pedanou scored off a cross from junior
Clemente Mejia.
For the game, SVC held a 23-10 advantage on shots and a slight 3-2 edge on corner kicks. Arnold paced the Bearcats with seven shots on the afternoon while Cutlip and Moore added three shots each. Jordan and senior
Christian Ricci tallied two shots apiece.
Senior goalkeeper
Jake Gilbertson earned the win in goal after making five saves on the afternoon.
Saint Vincent improves to 4-11-1 overall on the season and 3-4 in the PAC while Thiel drops to 5-11-1 on the season and 0-6 in league play.
With its playoff hopes still alive, the Bearcats close out the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 26 with a 3 p.m. match at Grove City.
